Hiking Falls View Trail At High Falls State Park
Falls View Trail is a scenic hike located in High Falls State Park near Jackson, Georgia. This 1.5-mile double-loop trail guides hikers along the edge of the Towaliga River to the tallest cascading waterfall south of Atlanta.
The waterfall, created by a dam, tumbles over 135 feet of rocky terrain in a dramatic display of whitewater. It’s a breathtaking sight that makes the hike well worth the effort.
With nearly 200 feet of elevation gain, the trail can be moderately strenuous, especially due to exposed tree roots and uneven, rocky surfaces. Hikers are encouraged to tread carefully and wear sturdy shoes.
The trailhead is conveniently located across the street from the park’s day-use area (coordinates: 33.17923, -84.01764).
We began by exploring the upper loop through a shaded forest path, then continued onto the second loop, where large boulders flank the trail as it descends toward the river.
Several offshoots lead to the river’s edge, offering great spots for photographing the cascades. Be sure to heed the posted signs—swimming, wading, and climbing on the rocks are prohibited for safety reasons.
If you’re short on time or prefer a lighter trek, you can skip the full loop and take the steps down to a few observation points. These still involve some uneven, primitive paths, so caution is advised.
The hike definitely got our hearts pumping, but the views were absolutely worth it. If you’re up for the challenge and physically able, Falls View Trail is a must-do during your visit to High Falls State Park.
