Blue West Campground is located north of the lake off Farm-to-Market Road 1913 in Lake Meredith National Recreation Area in Texas.
Campsites are on a first-come, first-served basis and are open year-round. It is free to boondock 14 consecutive days within a 30-day period, but no more than 60 days per year.
There are multiple campsites along the road able to accommodate any size vehicle with most having picnic tables and a shade shelter.
Almost all of the sites have amazing views of the lake but not really any access to the shoreline. There are some deep drop-offs so keep an eye on your kids and pets.
There are no hook-ups or water but there are vault toilets and trashcans so please properly dispose of your trash.
Pets are allowed, but please be sure to pick up after them. Our dog and cat loved playing outside.
Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and no metal detectors are allowed.
I don’t recall if we had cell service here, but if you have Starlink, like we do, there are plenty of clear skies which is also good if you’re powering your rig with solar.
Most spots had homemade fire rings. Be sure to check on any fire restrictions in the area before starting a fire and make sure every spark is out before going to bed or leaving camp.
You may gather dead wood on the ground but not much was lying around.
We saw quite a few species of birds and a couple of deer during our visit.
We also saw several tarantulas, walking sticks, praying mantis, and even a tiny scorpion so the wildlife experiences were unique here.
At the end of the campground is a road that takes you to the boat ramp if you happen to want to take your boat out on the lake for fishing or fun.
We were camped at the beginning of the campground which didn’t have a great view of the lake but was secluded so we enjoyed that aspect.
Walking all the way to the boat ramp and back every day made for some great exercise.
The town is about 30 minutes away with a Walmart and anything else you might need to stock up.
We had a great stay at Blue West Campground and would happily spend another two weeks here.
Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
