Exploring The Albright Visitor Center In Yellowstone National Park

The Albright Visitor Center is located five miles south of Yellowstone National Park’s North Entrance in the historic village of Mammoth Hot Springs.

This historic structure was built by the United States Army in 1909 and named after Yellowstone’s first superintendent, Horace M. Albright, after the National Park Service was formed.

The center provides visitors with information and resources to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the park’s natural and cultural resources.

Multiple displays include artifacts used by some of the earliest inhabitants of the park.

Various educational exhibits, interactive displays, and informational materials about the park can be found including exhibits that explore the wildlife and history of Yellowstone.

There are some amazing taxidermy displays posed in their natural setting.

The center provides information about recreational activities available in the park, such as hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and scenic drives.

Backcountry camping, boating, and fishing permits are available downstairs in the Mammoth Backcountry Office.

Park rangers and staff at the center are available to assist with trip planning and answer any questions that visitors may have.

Rangers give free educational talks and tours throughout the year.

Yellowstone Forever operates a bookstore in the visitor center that offers books, trail guides, maps, magnets, postcards, shirts, and any other souvenirs you may want to remember your trip to the park.

Restrooms, trashcans, free WiFi, and a water bottle filling station are all available here.

Fort Yellowstone was a U.S. Army fort, established in 1891 at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.

Thirty-five structures remain from the 1890s and early 1900s and visitors can see these buildings by strolling down the same sidewalk Albright Visitor Center is located on.

The buildings are used as employee housing now so you can’t tour them but you can still admire them from outside.
