The visitor center in Great Sand Dunes National Park is located near the park entrance.
This newly renovated center serves as a gateway for visitors to the park, providing them with information and resources to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the park.
There are various educational exhibits, interactive displays, and informational materials about the natural and diverse cultural history of the Park.
Exhibits include a large diorama depicting park and preserve ecosystems, a 3D model of the valley and geology animation, and a sand-wind interactive.
A night sky video and night life of the dunes exhibit are also on display.
Park rangers are available to offer guidance and answer any questions that visitors may have including recreational activities available in the park, such as hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing.
Rangers can also stamp your passport and sign the little ones up for the Junior Ranger program.
If you have furry family members inquire about the B.A.R.K. program, we signed up our dog and cat!
In the gift shop, you can find books, maps, souvenirs, and other items related to the national park.
A 20-minute park video is also available to watch in the theater.
Restrooms, trashcans, and a water bottle filling station are all available here.
An interpretive loop trail may be accessed from the visitor center, which is educational and has great views.
The Dunes Access trail, also called Wellington Ditch Trail trail, leads from the visitor center to the dunes if you feel like a hike instead of parking at the main lot for the dunes.
If you’re planning to visit the park, the visitor center is a valuable resource to help you make the most of your experience and gain a greater understanding of the park’s natural wonders.
The visitor center is open daily 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend, and 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
