Exploring The South Rim Visitor Center In Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

The South Rim Visitor Center In Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is located near the park entrance.

This center serves as a gateway for visitors to the park, providing them with information and resources to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the park’s natural and cultural resources.

This small visitor center offers various educational exhibits, interactive displays, and informational materials about the natural and cultural history of the Park.

Additionally, the center provides information about recreational activities available in the park, such as hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and scenic drives.

Visitors may also watch the park film in the theater.

Park rangers are available to offer guidance and answer any questions that visitors may have. Rangers can also stamp your passport and sign the little ones up for the Junior Ranger program.

In the gift shop, you can find books, maps, souvenirs, and other items related to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

Restrooms, trashcans, and a water bottle filling station (only in summer) are all available here.

The Gunnison Point Overlook may be accessed from the visitor center and the views are amazing.

Three hiking trails, Uplands, Rim Rock, and Oak Flat, can also be accessed from the center. We did all three of these trails as one loop and they were quite impressive.

It is open year-round with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Hours vary by season.
