Hiking To The Highest Point In Mesa Verde National Park
The trail begins and ends at the same trailhead (37.28038, -108.46149), located off Mesa Top Ruins Road, the park’s main scenic drive.
This is a popular trail and also one of the few trails in the park where your furry family members are welcome as long as they are on a leash.
This is a paved path with a steady uphill climb, so expect a mini workout. At the top, two overlooks offer stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape.
To the north, the peaks of the San Juan Mountains are visible. To the south, view the high deserts of New Mexico. To the West is Sleeping Ute Mountain and to the East lies the La Plata Mountains.
The historic Park Point Fire Lookout sits between the two overlooks so be sure to take a walk around and peek inside this station that’s still used today by the park during fire season.
With panoramic views in every direction, Park Point is a must-see when visiting Mesa Verde National Park.
