Hiking To Harlequin Lake In Yellowstone National park
This year, during our trip to Yellowstone National Park, we discovered the trailhead for Harlequin Lake and decided to explore it.
The Harlequin Lake Trail is a one-mile out-and-back hike with about 120 feet of elevation gain, starting and ending at the same trailhead.
The trailhead is between West Yellowstone and Madison Junction (44.64039, -110.88743). The parking lot is on one side and the trailhead starts across the road.
From the trailhead, hikers will begin a gentle half-mile climb through lodgepole pines before reaching the shores of Harlequin Lake.
The lake, surrounded by pines, covered in water lilies, and backdropped by hills, is a beautiful spot. We spied several species of waterfowl playing on the lake during our visit.
Once you reach the lake there is a very short trail by the shore you can wander down for a few minutes before turning around. Once you’ve finished soaking up the views head back to your vehicle down the same path that brought you to the lake.
The Harlequin Lake Trail is an easy and beautiful family-friendly hike in Yellowstone National Park that should not be missed during your visit.
Though we didn’t encounter any I’ve read that mosquitoes can be bad here so bug spray may be a good idea.
Be extra cautious, as bears are active in this area. It’s highly recommended to carry bear spray when hiking in Yellowstone National Park.
