Our 2024 Visit To Grand Teton National Park
We love Wyoming, and every year we find ourselves driving through the state again.
We were boondocking a couple of hours away from Grand Teton National Park and decided to see if we could get reservations for a couple of nights. We were lucky enough to grab five nights at Colter Bay Campground.
The campground was nice, although the sites were a bit close together, which is typical for national parks. The campground loops had trails down to Jackson Lake, where we played in the water a few times, which was fun.
Colter Bay Village was just a few minutes’ drive away, providing us access to showers, a laundromat, a gas station, grocery and souvenir shops, a visitor center, and some hikes.
We ate out once in the park at Leek’s Marina & Pizzeria. We had to wait almost an hour for the pizza, and it wasn’t very good. A couple we hiked with had a similar bad experience.
We ate at Dornan’s Pizza & Pasta Company last visit, and their pizza was excellent, so try them instead.
Even though we had five days at the park, we took a much more relaxed approach during this visit. Last year, we were constantly hiking or exploring and burnt ourselves out.
We still did multiple hikes this trip, including a couple we missed last year.
We did the Jenny Lake Loop Trail again which is always gorgeous. The Lakeshore Trail and Heron Pond/ Swan Lake Loop Trail were close to camp so we hiked them as well.
New trails we did this year included Two Ocean Lake and Inspiration Point to Cascade Canyon.
Two Ocean Lake was a bit boring, but Cascade Canyon is beautiful. We had pretty bad weather, including lots of haze and some rain, for most of our trip.
I would love to go back and do Cascade Canyon on a sunny day instead of the hazy rainy day we hiked it.
Wildlife is usually quite abundant in the park. Last year, we were lucky enough to have multiple encounters.
This year, we saw a small black bear and some mule deer on the Lakeshore Trail, but unfortunately, that was the extent of our wildlife viewing, except for a couple of elk and bison.
