Hiking The Two Ocean Lake Trail In Grand Teton National Park
Two Ocean Lake Trail is an easy hike in Grand Teton National Park.
The glacially formed lake spans 2.4 miles, with a trail around it stretching about 6.5 miles and an elevation gain of approximately 450 feet.
The trailhead for Two Ocean Lake (43.90128, -110.50153) is accessible via a dirt road off Pacific Creek Road from Highway 89/191. The parking lot is small, so it’s best to arrive early or later in the afternoon to secure a spot.
During summer, the area is adorned with a variety of colorful wildflowers, enhancing the hiking experience.
However, the area is wet and marshy, so don’t forget to bring bug spray. One side of the lake was swarming with mosquitoes, and we had to reapply bug spray during our hike to keep them at bay
According to Rangers, moose, grizzly bears, and wolves are commonly seen in this area. Although we only encountered waterfowl during our hike, we remained vigilant for other wildlife.
It’s crucial to be bear-aware and carry bear spray on all hikes in Grand Teton National Park.
The trail offers scenic views as it winds around the lakeshore through meadows and forests. On clear days, hikers can enjoy views of the Teton Range.
We began our hike at 7 am, but the skies were hazy, so unfortunately views were not in our forecast.
For those seeking a longer adventure, consider adding the Emma Matilda Lake loop to your hike. This extension will make the hike a little over 13 miles with an elevation gain of 1,900 feet.
Two Ocean Lake Trail is less frequented than other trails in the park, providing a more secluded hiking experience.
While I’m glad we did it, it wasn’t particularly exciting, and if your time is limited, there are better hikes in the park.
