Hiking The Pinewoods Trail In Missouri
Located near Ellsinore, Missouri, the serene Pinewoods Trail winds through the picturesque Pinewoods Lake Recreation Area.
Ideal for families, this trail spans around the 31-acre Pinewoods Lake, guiding hikers through the woods and over several wooden bridges.
With its gentle terrain and manageable length of 1.3 miles, this loop trail caters to hikers of all levels, boasting minimal elevation changes.
While half a mile of the path is paved with concrete, the remainder consists of a wide dirt track adorned with crisscrossing tree roots, requiring cautious footing.
During your hike, keep a keen eye out for the abundant wildlife inhabiting the area. From chirping birds and squirrels to deer roaming the landscape, nature’s wonders await your discovery.
The lake serves as a serene habitat for waterfowl like geese and ducks, and if you’re fortunate, you might catch a majestic eagle soaring overhead.
While exploring you might even encounter a beaver along the trail. We saw a beaver lodge, but unfortunately no beaver.
Near the trailhead, a day-use area equipped with benches, picnic tables, grills, shelters, and restrooms offers a comfortable setting for a break or a leisurely meal.
Day use hours extend from 6 am to 10 pm, allowing ample time to savor the tranquil surroundings.
For fishing enthusiasts, a boat ramp and floating fishing pier provide access to the lake’s abundant waters.
Additionally, a campground next to the lake presents an inviting option for overnight stays, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the area’s natural beauty.
The Pinewoods Trail caters to various outdoor pursuits, including birdwatching, fishing, and leisurely strolls. Canine companions are welcome on the trail but must remain leashed, with owners kindly reminded to clean up after their pets.
Depending on seasonal conditions and recent precipitation, certain sections of the trail may become wet and muddy, so it’s advisable to come prepared for varied terrain.
