Pikes Peak State Park In Iowa was established in 1936 and is managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
This nearly 1,000-acre state park features a 500-foot bluff overlooking the Upper Mississippi River, a campground, and multiple hiking trails.
There are around sixty sites in the campground and reservations can be made here. Be sure to read the details on RV length for the site you choose.
Check-out time is 3 pm and check-in time is 4 pm. If you get there early though and your site is empty you can occupy it.
The campground accepts reservations March 1 – November and is closed December – February.
The maximum number of vehicles is two and the maximum number of people is 6 per site.
Sites are electric and cost $20-$25 a night depending on the season.
There are some full hook-up sites but I’m not sure of the cost. I’m assuming more than $25 though.
A picnic table and fire ring are included at each site. Firewood is sold on the premises.
Sites in the larger loop are more open while the sites in the smaller loop, the one we choose, are nestled along the tree line.
Restrooms and trashcans are located in the campground. They also have a dump station and potable water that are offered seasonally.
Pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash and please pick up after them.
I believe we had cell service with Verizon and AT&T.
Pikes Peak observation is just steps away from the campground and the views are incredible. Multiple other trails can be reached from the campground as well.
The towns of McGregor and Marquette are 10-15 minutes away and have some great attractions including the Marquette Depot Museum and the Casino Queen Marquette if you feel like playing some slots.
Effigy Mounds National Monument is also located close to the park and should not be missed while visiting the area. It is Iowa’s only national monument and preserves over 200 prehistoric mounds.
If you’re in the area I recommend staying a Pikes Peak State Park and enjoying everything it has to offer.
Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
