We needed a spot for a couple of nights while exploring Pipestone National Monument and Split Rock Creek State Park fit the bill.
A large dam was completed in 1938 by the Works Progress Administration and the park became a destination for visitors.
The lake is the largest body of water in Pipestone County and is perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. There is a beach area with restrooms and a volleyball court.
If hiking is more your thing you can take the trail that surrounds the lake which crosses over the Split Rock Creek Bridge.
Reservations for the park can be made at reservemn.
Check-in and check-out time is 4 pm. If you get there early though and your site is empty you can occupy it. This campground is closed during the winter.
There are around 24 sites in the campground and be sure to read the details on RV length for the site you choose.
Most sites have electricity and cost $33 a night. A few non-electric sites are also available for $23 a night. All sites have a fire ring, grill, and picnic table.
There is also a $7 daily vehicle fee. I read that this is usually included in your nightly rate, but we had to pay extra so be prepared for that when you arrive.
Showers and flush toilets are located in the campground. They also have a dump station and potable water that are offered seasonally.
A playground and sandbox are located in the campground as well as a fish cleaning station.
You can rent canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards from the park office. Campers can also purchase firewood there.
Pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash and please pick up after them.
I remember we had cell service with Verizon, but in true Leandra fashion, I don’t remember if we had AT&T as well.
The sites had shade and weren’t that close together which is always a plus.
We walked the edge of the lake multiple times during our stay and had a great time in camp. It is conveniently located to Pipestone, Minnesota and the national monument making exploration quite easy.
If you’re in the area I recommend staying at Split Rock Creek State Park.
Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
