Grand Teton National Park is a large and popular national park in Wyoming. To cater to the multitude of visitors it receives each year, the park features a network of eight campgrounds strategically dispersed throughout the park.
During our visit this year in August, we spent six nights at two different campgrounds within the park boundaries. This post is about Gros Ventre Campground. If you want to read about our stay at Signal Mountain Campground check out my post here.
This is the park’s largest campground located in the southeast part of the park. It has seven loops with 279 individual campsites, 4 large group campsites, and 39 electric hook-up sites.
Each site is equipped with a picnic table, a fire pit, and a bear box for food storage.
There is a campground office where we checked in at that sells firewood and ice. The campground office is open from 8 am-8 pm during peak season. There is a campground host on-site.
New cell phone towers were recently put in so we had great service on AT&T and Verizon during our stay.
Restroom facilities are spread throughout the campground as well as trashcans to dispose of your trash properly.
At the front of the campground, a dump station and water fill station facilitate the camper’s needs. During our visit, we were required to be added to a list for the day we wanted to dump because they only allow a certain number per day.
Reservations are required and can be made at recreation.gov.
Non-electric sites are $50 a night and electric sites are $77 a night.
Notably, the campground closes from October 10th to April 30th due to adverse weather conditions. Camping allowances are capped at 14 days. Campsite occupancy is limited to six people per site.
Check-out time is 11 am and check-in time begins at noon. Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10 pm until 8 am. Please note that generators are only permitted in loops A, B, and C.
Pets are allowed as long as they are properly leashed and please pick up after them.
This is a national park so the sites are pretty close together so be prepared to socialize with your neighbors which may include bison, mule deer, elk, or moose. Moose are known to show up regularly here, but none visited during our stay.
The campground is within walking distance of the Gros Ventre River so if you’re lucky you might catch wildlife there. If you’re a fisherman grab your pole and throw out a line in the river.

Gros Ventre Campground is a nice campground and a great place to stay during your visit to Grand Teton National Park especially if you’re in a bigger rig. It is a bit farther away from the main attractions in the park which is why we preferred our stay at Signal Mountain campground.
We loved this park but didn’t get to do everything we wanted to so a future trip is in our plans.

Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
