Nestled along the banks of the upper Mississippi River, the Casino Queen Marquette in Iowa extends a warm welcome to all visitors with its iconic Pink Elephant.
This whimsical creature, known as Pinky, is a delightful presence within the casino pavilion, positioned between the main building and the riverboat casino.
Over the years, Pinky has played host to thousands of eager visitors who have captured a cherished photo with this beloved mascot. Naturally, we eagerly joined the ranks of those who couldn’t resist the opportunity to snap a few shots with Pinky.
Originally the fiberglass elephant was gray and abandoned after the Republican Convention in Sparta, Wisconsin. In 1964, a group of entrepreneurs established the Pink Elephant Supper Club and acquired the elephant.
They slapped a coat of pink paint on it and Pinky was born.
In 1976 Pinky was carefully loaded onto a pontoon boat, embarking on an extraordinary journey down the river. Its destination? A visit to the future President Jimmy Carter.
One can only imagine the spectacle it must have been to witness Pinky “water-skiing” along the river on that memorable occasion!
If you find yourself in Marquette, Iowa, make sure to set aside a few minutes to pay a visit to Pinky.
Our visit to Pinky also marked our first experience aboard a riverboat casino, and we had fun exploring the vessel and trying our luck with a few slot machines. Remarkably, we only ended up losing $35 collectively, which, in our book, qualifies as a successful and enjoyable outing
