The Bannock County Historical Museum was founded in 1922 and is located in Pocatello, Idaho.
The museum aims to preserve and showcase the history and heritage of Bannock County and southeast Idaho.
It typically features exhibits, artifacts, and displays related to the area’s Native American history, pioneer settlement, mining heritage, and other significant aspects of the county’s past.
Learn about railroad history, early medical practices, the military, Victorian era parlors, and Shoshone-Bannock Indians through well-designed displays.
Information is also provided on trapping and trading, ranching, firefighting, law enforcement, and folk art. There is a little bit of history on anything you can think of in this museum.
The Holladay Overland Stage Co. stagecoach and old fire fighting equipment were a couple of my favorite pieces, Their mural wall is absolutely spectacular as well.
Pocatello Junction is an outside exhibit located beside the museum.
This little village is a 3/4 scale representation of the original train stop/junction called Pocatello. There are a total of 12 buildings including the Pacific Hotel and Depot.
Be wary of the marmots though and be careful where you step. They are running wild around the junction.
Admission costs just $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for children.
The admission price includes the Pocatello Junction and the Fort Hall Replica. The fort is pretty nice so I did a separate post for it you can read here.
The museum does a great job providing history and information on the area and is worth a stop for sure if you’re visiting the town. It’s also quite a deal when you consider the fort and junction are also included in the price.
