If you’re looking for some free camping close to Goblin Valley State Park look no further than the Goblin Valley Overlook.
This camping area is located on BLM land and has a 14-day stay limit. Campsites are on a first come, first served basis and is open year-round.
This is a boondocking spot so there are no bathrooms, water, or hook-ups. There are also no trashcans so whatever you pack in make sure you pack out.
Pets are allowed, but please be sure to pick up after them.
Our Verizon and AT&T phones both worked here.
There were a couple of homemade fire rings for campfires. Be sure to check on any fire restrictions in the area before starting a fire.
Always make sure every spark is out before going to bed or leaving camp.
At the top of the road is a medium size gravel parking lot. This is where most people tend to camp.
Any size vehicle will fit here.
If you take the dirt road leading away from the gravel lot you will find multiple spots in the large open area.
We parked in the open area and had the whole thing to ourselves. It wasn’t very busy during our week stay and most people just overnighted in the gravel lot.
We were surrounded by beautiful wildflowers and butterflies and the 360 views were amazing. We even saw a lone pronghorn crossing the area twice.
There is no shade here and the wind can be quite intense at times.
There is more free camping across from Goblin Valley Road and South Temple Wash. Temple Mountain Campground is also located here and costs $15 a night (I believe).
We didn’t have cell service at either of these spots though.
From this boondocking spot, you are only 10 minutes away from Goblin Valley State Park. I recommend taking some time to explore the Valley of Goblins inside the park.
The Temple Mountain Wash Pictograph Panel is just a few minutes away and worth a quick stop.
Do not miss hiking Little Wild Horse Canyon which is a fun slot canyon adventure.
We enjoyed our stay here and it was great having a free, safe spot so close to Goblin Valley State Park. We would stay here again for sure.
Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
