Exploring The Valley of Goblins In Goblin Valley State Park
The Valley of Goblins is a unique geological feature located in Goblin Valley State Park in Utah.
It is characterized by an extensive collection of mushroom-shaped rock formations, often referred to as “hoodoos” or “goblins.” These formations are the result of millions of years of erosion on the Entrada sandstone, which is prevalent in the area.
The Valley of Goblins is one of the park’s most well-known attractions.
It spans nearly three square miles and is a free-roaming area where visitors can explore at their leisure. There are no designated trails so you can explore every nook and cranny of the area that you want.
The Valley of Goblins is divided into three valleys.
The first valley is a mostly flat expanse containing several dozen clusters of the hoodoos they call “goblins.”
The second valley contains much taller “goblins” that line several canyons.
The third valley can be found more than a mile south of the observation point and is similar in size and composition to the first valley.
Visitors can freely explore and climb the mushroom-shaped rock formations while in the valley. The valley’s distinctive appearance, with its dense concentration of goblins, creates a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere.
It’s a great place for both children and adults to enjoy a sense of adventure and imagination.
We spent an hour exploring the first valley and ended up walking almost a mile. We took turns choosing which path to take and which “goblins” to investigate.
There was a lot of climbing and I may have got a bit of rock burn on the palms of my hands once or twice.
We had a lot of fun in this section of the park and would highly recommend spending some time wandering around the “goblins” during your visit.
We had a little contest to see who could find the most interesting “goblins” and had a blast figuring out what each one resembled as well.
Overall, the Valley of Goblins offers a unique and enchanting experience for those who appreciate the wonders of nature and geological formations.
It is a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and mystery of the rock formations, creating lasting memories and captivating photographs.
There is a $20 admission fee per vehicle to enter Goblin Valley State Park which is good till 10 pm the next day.
Hours of operation for the park are 6 am – 10 pm each day.
Loved that place! If you haven’t already, check out the slot canyon hike down the road at White Horse. Fabulous!
I just wrote a post about that slot canyon hike today that will post on Tuesday. We loved that hike more than Goblin Valley,
