Hiking The Riverside Walk Trail In Zion National Park
The Riverside Walk Trail is a popular hiking trail located in Zion National Park, Utah.
The wide paved trail is approximately a 2.2-mile out-and-back hike with little elevation gain, making it accessible to hikers of all abilities.
It follows the Virgin River as it flows through a narrow canyon known as the Zion Narrows. The trail starts off following the riverbank, passing through lush vegetation and towering sandstone cliffs.
Along the way, hikers can take in the beauty of the canyon and spot wildlife such as deer, chipmunks, squirrels, and birds. We saw one squirrel and two mule deer during our hike.
Also, be on the lookout for hanging gardens on the weeping canyon walls.
Not very far into the hike a tall and beautiful waterfall was cascading down the canyon wall. I don’t know if it’s always there, but I’m glad we got to see it.
Several spots along the trail also allow easy access down to the Virgin River. Use caution if the waters are rushing though and don’t get too close.
The Riverside Walk Trail is an excellent option for those who want to experience the stunning beauty of Zion National Park without embarking on a more strenuous hike.
This hike is sometimes called the Gateway to the Narrows because, at the end of the trail, you can hike further into the Zion Narrows.
The Narrows hike is the one we wanted to do most while in the park. Unfortunately due to heavy snow melt this year, it was considered too dangerous for hikers and closed during our visit.
This just means another visit to Zion National Park is in our future.
This hike is perfect for the entire family and I highly recommend it during your visit. It’s just a beautiful hike and was one of my favorites in the park.
You must use the shuttle system provided by the park to access the trailhead for the hike.
You can reach the trailhead for Riverside Walk at Temple of Sinawava which is stop #9.
