Our Visit To Grand Canyon National Park
Back in 2021, we visited Grand Canyon National Park and this year we were traveling by and decided to stop again.
On our first day, we just headed to the main village in the park and checked out all the buildings.
We hit up the historic Kolb Studio, Hopi House, Verkamps Visitor Center, Lookout Studio, and Yavapai Geology Museum.
On our last visit, all the displays were covered up at the museum because of Covid-19 so this year we got to check out the exhibits in this small museum.
We also got to explore the main visitor center this year which was closed on our last visit. They have some neat exhibits to check out.
They have rangers available to answer any questions you may have at the information desks. This is also where you can sign up your little ones for Junior Rangers and get your Passport stamped.
We also picked up B.A.R.K. Ranger tags for our pets. This is now the fourth national park Dexter our dog and Everest our cat are now rangers at.
We picked up more fudge this year at the Maswik Lodge gift shop and it was as delicious as we remembered it from our last trip.
I also picked up a cute little turtle trinket from Hopi House which is now on my special shelf in the camper.
The Grand Canyon Village Market & Deli is located in the park. They sell souvenirs and food. Most of the food is way too expensive, but fruits, veggies and deli items are reasonably priced.
They also have a small liquor store inside as well as tons of alcohol you can buy by a single can or bottle. We picked up quite a few new things to try while spending time around the campfire at night.
We walked the Trail of Time portion of the rim trail that discusses the Grand Canyon’s geologic history. It also has amazing views of the canyon itself.
We also walked about a mile of the rim trail near the visitor center and checked out Mather Point which has an incredible view of the canyon. We brought the pets with us on this walk because leashed pets are allowed on the rim trail.
Jamey and I also took the shuttle one day up to Hermit’s Rest and walked six miles of the rim trail there as well. We have officially walked all of the rim trail now.
You can check out my post on the rim trail from our last visit here.
This year we didn’t hike down into the canyon, but if you are physically able it’s something you should do.
You don’t have to go to the bottom. Just go as far as you feel comfortable with. It’s a tough hike back up, but offers amazing views.
You can read my post on our hike down from our last visit here.
The national park has plenty of lodging options including campgrounds, cabins, and a hotel. You can learn about their accommodations here.
The park is surrounded by the Kaibab National Forest and we dispersed camped there again for free for two weeks. We stayed on a different forest road this trip which was much closer to the park.
There are a ton of options and you can check out my post on our spot during our last visit here.
If you have never seen the wonder that is Grand Canyon National Park I highly recommend adding it to your bucket list. You really don’t have to do that much walking to see some amazing views.
During our next trip, we hope to go down in the canyon again on the South Kaibab Trail. The climb back up is always rough, but you can’t beat those views.
