6 Cheap and Free Things To Do In Winslow, Arizona
Winslow is a city located in Navajo County, Arizona with around 10,000 residents.
The city was founded in 1800 or 1882 and incorporated in 1900.
Route 66 originally passed through the city and Winslow achieved national fame in 1972 when the Eagles recorded the song “Take It Easy”.
Below are some cheap and free things to do during your visit.
Old Trails Museum: The museum explores the history of Winslow, Arizona, and the surrounding areas through exhibits and public programs.
Admission to the museum is free.
La Posada: This is one of the last remaining Harvey House hotels. Visitors are free to explore the historic building and grounds which are surrounded by different gardens on each side.
The Turquoise Room restaurant is supposed to have amazing food.
There’s also an art museum in the building that’s free to the public.
Standin’ on a Corner Park: The park was built to commemorate the song “Take It Easy” recorded by the Eagles. Well, I’m a-standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona is a verse in the song and they reconstructed it completely with a statue, mural, and even a flatbed Ford.
First Street Park: This landscaped walkway covers six city blocks and features exhibits on the historic and cultural elements of the city and surrounding areas.
World’s Smallest Church On Route 66: The smallest church on the Mother Road is about 7 x 4.5 feet with two benches and an altar.
It’s a quirky little attraction in a courtyard that also has multiple panels explaining the history of Winslow.
Visitor Center: The building is an old Hubbell trading post and staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have. Multiple displays give the history of the town and surrounding areas.

The Walmart in town allows overnight parking and so does the visitor center. The visitor center is located right by the railway tracks though and trains run all night.
Route 66 is still completely embraced in the town and you will find plenty of gift shops to purchase souvenirs.
There are a number of parks and historic places within an hour of Winslow to visit too including McHood Park, Meteor Crater, Little Painted Desert County Park, Rock Art Ranch, Homolovi Ruins, and Petrified Forest National Park.
We didn’t have a lot of time to spend in the area so we only got to visit Petrified Forest National Park. You can check out my posts on the park here.
Next year we plan to spend more time in Arizona and hope to hit all the places listed above.
