Bluff Fort is a historic site located in Bluff, Utah.
It was established by Mormon pioneers in 1880 as part of their efforts to settle in southeastern Utah. The fort served as a communal living space and provided protection from Native American attacks.
Today, Bluff Fort is a museum and visitor center that preserves the history of the area and the pioneer settlement.
It features exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays that showcase the life and struggles of the pioneers who settled in the area.
The fort is made up of several buildings, including personal cabins, a trading post, a school, and a blacksmith shop. Each building is furnished with artifacts from the era.
One of the original cabins, the Barton Cabin, may still be seen at Bluff Fort, but the other buildings are reconstructions.
Visitors can explore the fort and learn about the history of the area through self-guided tours.
Volunteers dressed in pioneer attire are available to answer any questions you may have.
There is a gift shop in the visitor center, which is a replica of the Co-op Store. Restrooms are also available on the grounds.
We loved exploring the fort and seeing all the artifacts and displays. A lot of detail went into decorating each building.
There are multiple covered wagons on display in the central courtyard and the giant water wheel has my favorite.
If you happen to be in the area I highly recommend a stop at Bluff Fort.
If you’re looking for a spot to spend the night Sand Island Campground is just minutes away located on the San Juan River.
It’s only $15 a night and also has an amazing petroglyph panel.
The fort is open daily 9 am-6 pm April-October and 10 am-5 pm November-March.
On Sundays, the visitor center is closed, but you can still walk the grounds. The buildings inside the fort are just locked.
