Hiking The Center Furnace Trail At Land Between The Lakes
The Center Furnace Trail is a 0.3 mile loop trail located in Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.
This easy trail is pet friendly and has almost no elevation gain. The trailhead (36.90047, -88.03976) can be found near the Woodlands Nature Station.
This interpretive trail tells the history of the iron industry in the area. The trail is very educational and informative and history buffs, like my hubby, will love it.
Along the trail are informational plaques and relics from the past including a replica of the charcoal hearth, iron pits and old cisterns.
What remains of Center Furnace can be found on the road right around the corner from the trailhead. It is located across from the trailhead for Long Creek and Honker Lake.
During your hike you’ll also pass an old gravestone and a 150-year-old white oak tree named “White Wolf”.
This is a short, easy and educational hike perfect for the whole family and should not be missed during your visit to Land Between the Lakes.
