Hiking Sloan’s Crossing Pond Trail At Mammoth Cave National Park
The Sloan’s Crossing Pond Trail is located in Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
The parking lot for the trailhead (37.15104, -86.09828) can be accessed off of Mammoth Cave Parkway.
This easy 1/2 mile loop trail has no elevation gain, is on a boardwalk making it handicap accessible and it’s pet friendly.
The pond was created from a sink hole above Mammoth Cave. The loop circles the pond and has a couple of wooden observation decks offering different viewpoints.
The pond is adorable and teeming with wildlife.
We saw fish, a couple turtles and a ton of frogs. We must of spent ten minutes scanning all the lily pads seeing how many frogs we could spy.
This is a short and sweet, but very picturesque trail perfect for the entire family. A lot of the trails in the park aren’t that impressive and this one was my favorite.
There are a couple informational boards located along the trail making this an educational hike as well.
There is a trashcan and some picnic tables located in the shade near the parking lot. The bike trail also goes through this area.
