Exploring Hotel California Deep In The Kentucky Woods
While looking at Google maps during our visit to Land Between the Lakes Jamey saw something called Hotel California highlighted and did a quick internet search.
Later that day we jumped in the truck and decided to check it out.
The actual GPS coordinates for the trailhead are 36.98392, -88.14199.
To get there you will start on the Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway, then take forest road 112, then take forest road 120.
You know you’ve reached the spot when you see three large rocks covered in spray paint.
Park your vehicle on the side of the road and start your trek through the woods. The trail is easy to follow just keep your eyes on the spray-painted trees.
After about 0.3 miles you’ll reach your destination.
Hotel California is what’s left of what was once the home of a riverboat captain named Grover Marler.
Now it’s a crumbling, graffiti-covered structure most have forgotten about deep in the Kentucky woods.
The place looks like the perfect film location for an apocalypse movie or where someone might go to perform some satanic rituals.
Mainly it’s probably just used by teenagers on the weekends to party with their friends and have a few drinks.
Most of the graffiti is rubbish, but there are some nice pieces of art scattered around if you take the time to look.
I had to delete a lot of pictures I took because of profanity and obscene drawings. I think I got most of them, but if some did get posted I apologize.
The place isn’t the most structurally sound building I’ve ever seen so be careful during your exploration.
It’s a cool little discovery though that I’m glad we checked out. It’s so out of place sitting there in the woods and we never miss the opportunity to check out the unusual finds.
