The Gladie Visitor Center is your one stop shop for all the information you’ll need for your visit to the Red River Gorge Geological Area and Clifty Wilderness in Kentucky.
It’s open daily, except for major holidays, and their hours vary by the season. Their normal hours are Thursday-Monday 10 AM-5PM.
The visitors center has restrooms, trashcans and plenty of parking. Picnic tables are available for use on the grounds and two short nature trails start at the center.
Inside you will find a nice gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs and local crafts.
At the information desk you can pick up maps and brochures on the trails and more activities in the area. Friendly staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have.
This is also where you will purchase your camping permits.
Camping is allowed in Red River Gorge, but you must buy a permit in order to camp overnight there. They are super cheap though and we only paid $7 for a three night pass.
There are a number of great exhibits inside the center that look practically brand new. These interpretive exhibits talk about the history, geology and wildlife of the area.
The massive old loom was my favorite piece.
They have a little theater inside where they show 5 or 6 different short films. Just ask the staff which films are available and they will set them up for you to watch.
This a great little visitors center and the perfect place to start your adventures in Red River Gorge.
