Visiting Cathedral Falls In West Virginia
Cathedral Falls is one of the highest waterfalls that can be found in wild, wonderful West Virginia.
Located right off Highway 60 (38.15449, -81.17878), a mile east of Gauley Bridge, it’s one of the easiest waterfalls to access as well.
From a small parking lot located right off the road and you can see the waterfall.
A short stroll over the wooden bridge gets you to the base of the falls though for an up close and personal experience (and some great selfies).
Cane Creek cascades down a narrow canyon over sandstone and shale to create the 60 foot waterfall.
The flow of the water changes with the seasons, but it had been raining for a couple days before our visit and the water was really flowing.
If you’re feeling adventurous make your way across the rocks and get even closer to the waterfall for some great pics. Just be careful, because those stepping stones to your goal are quite slippery.
The water flows through the rocky stream till it meets up with the river across the road. The water flowing over the rocks is almost as pretty as the waterfall.
Cathedral Falls is a really quick stop and completely worth the time if you happen to be driving by.
There are a few covered picnic tables if you would like to take a break for a snack or just relax and enjoy the sounds of the rushing water as you admire the waterfall.
