Amazing Views From Sam’s Loop Hiking Trail In Arkansas

We spent a few days camping at Sam’s Throne Campground in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas and had a relaxing time at this little primitive campground. A highlight of the camp was an easy access trail to part of the Sam’s Loop Hiking trail.
The trailhead at the campground is called the Chickenhead Wall Access point and gives you access to both Sam’s Throne and Chickenhead Wall. Both are popular spots in the area for rock climbers.
There is a parking lot to your left once you enter the campground. The trail enters the woods almost immediately across from the first campsite on your left once you walk through the gate.
If you travel through the gate and drive through the primitive campground to the end you’ll reach a circle drive which you can also access the trail at. Signs and maps can be found there for the area, but parking is limited.
The trail is filled with a bunch of fun little routes that offer amazing views of the area.
You can make this hike as short or as long as you want. A short hike along the bluff line to the main vista offers spectacular views of the valley and the lone peak known as Sam’s throne.
You can continue following the bluff and trail to reach further down into the valley, but it wasn’t well marked and overgrown in parts when we visited. We didn’t travel that much farther on the trail and just headed back to camp.
If you hike the whole trail it will be between 2.5 to 3 miles. Cell service is very limited here so I suggest downloaded a map or two of the trail before arriving.
Pets are allowed on trail, but should be leased. There are some major drop-offs here so watch any small children that may be hiking with you.
Though we only did a very short version of this hike the views and parts we did experience were incredible. Also, if you’re into geocaching there was a little cache hidden in the rocks during our visit.
