For my birthday I really wanted to visit the town of Casey, Illinois. This small town is known for a lot of big things including being home to around a dozen of the World’s Largest items.
Fairview Park is an absolutely beautiful park located in the city that also has camping. All sites are on a first come, first serve basis and any size rig will fit here. There are between 20-30 sites located at the campground. The sites are on grass, are pull-thru and level.
I listed the camping prices below:
- Residents: $15/night for RVs & Campers
- Non-residents: $25/night for RVs & Campers
- $10/night for tent camping
Jerry is the host and lives across the street. He will stop by and obtain payment from you at your campsite.
Since we didn’t need electric or water Jerry was kind enough to only charge us $10 for our nights stay. He is a very nice guy who gave us some tips of what we shouldn’t miss in town. Also I believe you can only pay with cash or check so be prepared for that.
Each campsite has electric and water hookups. It appeared each site also had a picnic table and fire pit. Trashcans were scattered about the area for people to use. Restrooms, a bathhouse and sewer dump can be found at the entrance and there is no additional charge.
I’ve read that some people had to get a key from Jerry to use the bathhouse, but it was open when we visited. The restrooms and the bathhouse needed a little work, but they were clean. We didn’t need to take a shower so I don’t know how the water pressure is like.
Leashed pets are permitted at the campground just remember to pick up after them. We had both Verizon and AT&T cell service while we were here.
The campground is located right beside a side street with houses, but it was very quiet. There were only two other campers there during the night we stayed and they were pretty quiet too. Some of the spots have more trees providing shade while others are pretty exposed to the sun.
Just a heads up that on November 1st they do disconnect the water for the winter. I’m not sure when they turn it back on and I don’t know if this effects the price of the campground in the winter.
Below is a list of some of the amenities this 40 acre park has to offer:
- playground
- basketball court
- soccer area
- skate park/bike park
- horseshoe pitching area
- horse arena
- tractor pull area
- bandstand
- flower garden
- memorial garden
- disc golf course
Paved walking paths allow you to travel around the park. There are several shaded picnic areas as well as five pavilions with grills. Twin ponds are also located in the park providing excellent opportunities for fishing. The USA Softball of Illinois Hall of Fame can be found at the back of the park and is free to check out.
The real reason we came to Casey, Illinois was to see all the quirky attractions and we were not disappointed. We missed a couple things, but if you click on this link I made blog posts about all the big cool things we did see.
Fairview Park is an amazing park and the perfect place to camp at if you want to explore the town. It was safe and clean and just a quick drive to downtown where all the attractions are. After spending the entire day exploring the town we had fun walking around the park with the pets.
If a trip to Casey is in your future this little park is the perfect place to spend the night.
Always follow the Leave No Trace Seven Principles and try to leave your camp nicer than you found it. Please research campgrounds before visiting. Rules and regulations may have changed since we stayed there.
