We were in Columbus to pick up our new camper when we noticed we would be awfully close to a Cabela’s, which means we just had to stop in. Cabela’s is a mecca for the outdoor enthusiast. Camping, hunting, fishing, whatever your interest are you’ll find everything you need in the store.
Now I’ve picked up a fair share of gear from Cabela’s in my day, but the main reason I check out the different stores we come across is for the taxidermy. Cabela’s is known for it’s impressive taxidermy located throughout the store.
There is usually a massive display in each store depicting numerous animals from around the country. They are usually arranged in an outdoor scene in various poses and each has a plaque stating the species. The one in Columbus was pretty nice, but I’ve seen some impressive ones around the country.
This particular store had a bear in a tree and in another tree there were multiple turkeys hanging out. These two were my favorite, because it really shows the thought and detail they put into their displays. You never know where you’ll see a piece displayed so check high and low.
An aquarium or two is usually showcased in the stores as well. This store had a smaller aquarium, but they had some mighty large fish swimming around inside.
I know most people wouldn’t think going into a Cabela’s is anything exciting, but I love stopping in and checking out all the taxidermy on display. The stores usually carry the same species, but each is displayed a little different so it’s fun to check out.
The store was already decorated for Christmas, because in the retail world Christmas starts the day after Halloween or even earlier. Santa’s Wonderland was already set up and a massive and gorgeously decorated tree greeted us upon entry.
I don’t do Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but I know peeps who have put their trees up already so to each their own.
So if you like taxidermy and have never hit up a Cabela’s before stop on in. Check out some cool stuffed critters and pick up some gear for your outdoor adventures. The stores are quite large and you never know what treasures you might find walking it’s aisles.
