We were in Custer, South Dakota for my birthday and I really wanted to play some mini-golf.
The city just happens to be the home of the Grizzly Gulch Adventure Golf course so we grabbed some putters and sparkly balls and hit the greens.
You would think because it was my birthday Jamey would have mercy on me and let me finally win a game…no such luck.
He actually ended up beating me by eight strokes. That’s the worse I’ve done on a course this year. Though this course may look easy it is way more challenging than it appears.
The turf looked brand new so balls easily rolled down to their destination, sometimes too well.
The ends of some of the holes didn’t have quite enough lift so if you swung a little too hard your ball would jump the green and end up on the sidewalk. This happened to us a couple times.
Different obstacles were added to multiple holes.
As you can tell in the pic above that hole looked intimidating, but was pretty simple. It was the innocent looking ones that created more of a challenge.
There were surprises built in that you couldn’t quite make out until after your first stroke. It was after that first hit that the hidden bumps and hills were visible.
And I swear each actual hole had a lip around it or at least it seemed that way.
You would be inches from the hole and 100% confident your ball was going to go in then realize you didn’t hit it hard enough and it would roll right back to you.
If you were really lucky it would happen multiple times on the same hole. I have never cursed so much on a mini-golf course in my life, lol.
It’s not the fanciest or prettiest course in the world, but it did have a nice little waterfall and a little stream running through part of it. The statue of a giant grizzly also greets you at the beginning of the course creating a good photo-op.
If you’re into mini-golf like we are and are in the area be sure to make a stop at the Grizzly Gulch Adventure Golf course. It may not seem like much from the road, but it’s actually a surprisingly challenging little course.
