We have made our way to Custer, South Dakota.
The Sturgis bike rally officially started this weekend so we thought we would head south for the next two weeks to avoid some of the crowds. There are bikers everywhere. Suppose to be a record-breaking year in attendance so we shall see.
I’m really liking Custer even after only a couple of days. The best part so far is the number of rock shops here. I’m in heaven! It was in front of one of these shops we made a creepy discovery.
Ken’s Minerals & Trading Post is a really nice shop carrying a wide selection of minerals and fossils.
If you’re into rocks make sure to pop your head in and have a look around. If you just want to check out something creepy there are some old cement dinosaurs stalking the parking lot.
These dinos look like cousins to the giant ones located at Dinosaur Park in Rapid City, SD. There are four in total and each one is in serious need of a paint job, but that just makes them look more decrepit.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered an even odder aspect of these little guys. There appear to be real animal teeth glued into their mouths.
It ups their creep factor by at least 10!
Now I don’t know the story behind these guys and couldn’t find any info on them so their tale will have to remain a mystery.
But they are creepy and odd and just the kind of thing we hoped we would encounter once we started traveling full-time. We love the strange and unusual!
The shop also has a big old metal moose statue and a wagon overflowing with antlers. Just a couple more odd things you don’t run into every day.
