I just love me some mini-golf!
Whenever we come across a course that has half decent reviews online we always try to stop and play.
We were boondocking in the Black Hills National Forest a mere ten minutes from Keystone, South Dakota so early one morning we decided to head into town to hit some balls.
The course is in really good shape and looks like it has recently been re-turfed. The holes are pretty simple till you reach number eight. Then the course gets a little more challenging.
It’s not that the holes are more complicated it’s the angles that get ya.
Part of the course is actually set-up on a hill. I mean you got to climb up a bit to continue playing the course. There are multiple holes where if you don’t hit it just right the ball just rolls back down the hill to where you started.
Hit, roll, hit, roll, hit roll…we did this for a couple holes. We adjusted play to accommodate. We hit the ball till it didn’t roll down again and only counted it as one stroke (even if it took us 6)!
We also skipped one hole because it was a small lake where you started putting. Rain had been coming down every afternoon for three days so everything was a little damp.
Hole 1 and 18 had the little golf spinners which I’ve been seeing more of at these courses and love it. I ended up only losing by one stroke, because on the last hole Jamey had to hit the ball every time with only his foot.
All and all it’s an entertaining little course.
It has a mining theme, is well maintained and not really difficult. There are some frustrating holes because it’s built on a hill, but you can adjust for that like we did.
There is this giant rock pillar sticking out of the hill practically on the course. I just thought it looked impressive and fit in well with the look of the golf course.
If you’re a mini-golf fan and are in the area stop on in and have some fun.
It didn’t take us long to complete the course and we were entertained. I’m getting better at this game. The last two times we’ve played Jamey has only beat me by one stroke. I swear by the end of the summer I will win a game!
