We Saw Our First Moose!
That’s right boys and girls we have finally seen a moose in the wild and we didn’t even have to leave our campsite!
Jamey has been obsessed with seeing a moose in the wild for like ever. I don’t know why, but he really wanted to see one. While boondocking in the Green River Lakes area of the Bridger Wilderness of the Bridger-Teton National Forest it finally happened.
Sunset was quickly approaching so we decided to leave the confines of our pop-up and watch the sun fade away. After bathing ourselves in bug spray (we were camped right on the river bank and the mosquitos there were horrendous) we headed outside.
Moments after exiting we heard a large splash and went to investigate. A family of 4 muskrats were playing in the water on the river bank opposite us. They are very entertaining varmints to watch if you ever get the opportunity and these were the biggest I’ve ever seen.
After a few minutes Jamey is like there’s a moose over there. I’m like nope, it’s probably just a cow they’re everywhere and you don’t have your glasses on. So we mosey on over to the other side of the camper and sure enough a moose is eating grass on the river bank opposite us.
So after all the initial HOLY SH*T’s there’s a moose right there I started trying to get pics of the giant beast. Even though she? was right on the other side of the river she was still a little ways off and I didn’t get the best pics. My camera is not the greatest and the sun was quickly setting, but I got some “good” ones I think.
She? spent about 10 minutes watching us and eating grass. Then she dipped into the river and crossed. She was still on the opposite side of the river from us so we kept watching. For another 10 minutes we just watched her? eat while she would occasionally glance in our direction. Then she slipped between the bushes and was gone 🙁
The whole time we were watching the moose we could still see the muskrats playing and grooming each other in the river beside us. Then Jamey tapped me on the shoulder and was like look to your right. I glanced over my shoulder and there stood two mule deer grazing on the river bank beside us. Seriously, this was like one of the greatest wildlife experiences of our life!
WE GOT TO SEE A MOOSE!
