Public Art Walking Tour In Pinedale, Wyoming
Pinedale, Wyoming is such a charming little town and Jamey and I just fell in love with it and the surrounding area. A unique thing to do while visiting the small town is to take the self guided Public Art Walking Tour.
The Public Art Walking Tour consists of temporary and permanent sculptures and murals, ephemeral art, cabochons and exhibitions. I believe the first installation in this art project began in 2011 and has grown since then. Almost all the art pieces can be found if you take a stroll down main street.
To start the tour head to the visitors center for a brochure. It will tell you exactly where to find each art installation as well as more information on each particular piece.
There are a number of exceptional murals included in the tour. My favorite was the moose mural on the side of Jak’s Salon & Boutique located at 1175 West Pine Street. This particular one is not listed on the brochure so make sure you don’t miss it.
Besides sculptures and murals a number of cabochons have been installed. Cast your gaze to the sidewalk and you will see 30” relief medallions with artistic designs cast in bronze.
Pinedale has little artistic details scattered throughout it’s streets if you really take a look around. Metal trashcans have designs cut into their sides and multiple businesses have added little bits of artistry outside their buildings.
Artist Don Rambadt designed the Pinedale gateway signs that greet visitors entering town from either direction. These con-ten and stainless steel signs feature fish and eagles that welcome travelers to the community.
This is not the first walking art tour we have done in a small town during our travels and I’m hoping it’s not the last. I always enjoy an art tour or scavenger hunt in a small town. It’s a great way to explore a new community and learn more about it.
If you ever have the opportunity to do anything like this while traveling I think it’s an experience you will really enjoy.
