So we spent two weeks boondocking outside the absolutely lovely little town of Pinedale, Wyoming. While at the visitor center I was told about a new little shop that opened up that served fresh, hot mini-donuts so I just had to check it out.
Bison’s Bounty is located in what was originally the Pinedale Hotel. Built in 1904 it is the oldest building in Pinedale. When you walk in there is a counter and menu on the wall to make your order. To the right is an indoor seating section and they even have a bookshelf of games to play. There is also a nice outdoor seating area.
Go to the left and you will walk into a small gift shop. A number of their products are from local vendors. There is coffee roasted in Sheridan, jerky from Cody, and huckleberry soda from Jackson Hole to name a few. They also sell a number of Wyoming souvenirs. Now let’s talk about these donuts.
All of their mini-donuts are hot, fresh and made-to-order in house. Make your choice from the multiple flavor options on the menu and within 3-5 minutes these babies are ready to be consumed. The kitchen is visible right through the window where you order so you can actually watch them make your donuts.
These sweet concoctions are, and I don’t say this lightly, the absolutely best donuts I have ever had! I eat a lot of donuts so that is high praise indeed. We had four powdered donuts and 2 of the cinnamon sugar/nutella donuts. I mean these little bites are so so good. They taste just like the homemade donuts we use to make as kids.
While we were there we thought why not try a couple pieces of chocolate as well. The homemade chocolates in the store are made by Chocolates by Kelly. She is a a 5th generation Master Chocolatier who actually lives in Pinedale.
We chose dark chocolate mint, dark chocolate raspberry and the milk chocolate salted caramel pieces. I really enjoyed the mint and the raspberry was absolutely delicious. I thought the salted caramel was ok.
The store also sells coffee, tea and milk if you would like something to wash down your donuts with. My only complaint is that the donuts were too small and we finished them way too fast. We were left craving about 100 more.
If you are ever in Pinedale and you do not get some mini-donuts here you are going to regret it!
