Grand View Point Trail In Canyonlands National Park
The Grand View Point Trail is located in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park.
This easy 2 mile roundtrip trail has around 80 feet of elevation gain and takes you on a beautiful hike along the rim of the canyon.
As you travel on the edge of the canyon you will be greeted with absolutely stunning views of the Canyonlands area. It is located at the southernmost point along the Island in the Sky scenic drive.
From the parking lot, you can walk a paved 300 foot trail that is wheelchair accessible to the first viewpoint which is at 6,080 feet elevation.
From this viewpoint, you can see distant mountains, canyons, basins, Monument Basin, and the White Rim Road below.
A number of interpretive signs are also posted at the viewpoint giving additional information on the area. It is a great place to snap some pics and really see what Canyonlands has to offer.
For the hikers out there the trail continues past the first paved viewpoint for a mile of unpaved adventure on the canyon’s rim and sandstone of the mesa .
The trail is a mix of dirt single track and slickrock. The trail is well marked and permanent stone cairns are placed on the slickrock sections so you won’t lose your way.
If you’re scared of heights don’t let this rim trail description deter you.
The trail is actually quite wide and not too close to the edge so you’re not likely to accidentally fall to your death.
For the braver at heart there are plenty of opportunities to snap a pic on the edge for a social media worthy shot. (Jamey always hates when I do this)!
When you reach the end and the second viewpoint the panoramic views of the area will take your breath away.
Scramble some rocks and you will be rewarded with 360-degree views including the distant Green and Colorado Rivers, Junction Butte, and the Monument Basin.
We spent at least 30 minutes just sitting on rocks soaking in the rays and enjoying the million dollar views all around us.
This is just another must do hike in this amazing park. I’m serious you don’t want to skip this one!
