Bedrock City is a roadside attraction based on the 1960s animated series The Flintstones. It has been a stop for many family’s on their way to the Grand Canyon for decades.
Bedrock city was opened in 1972 by Francis Jerome Speckels. When it opened it had 3 acres of statues, rides and a diner based on The Flintstones theme. There was also a campground for weary travelers to park their RV’s for the night.
The Speckels family sold the attraction to Troy Morris and Ron Brown in 2019.
Originally they planned to tear down Bedrock City, but visitors kept stopping in to see the Flinstone’s hometown so they kept it. The RV Campground is still there, but the place is now called Raptor Ranch.
They offer flight demonstrations with birds of prey for the public. While exploring Bedrock City you will see the raptors and falcons in cages on the property.
They have a Great Horned Owl (I believe) that is absolutely stunning to behold.
Raptor Ranch is also a wildlife education facility and has a bird-of-prey breeding program. Unfortunately, while we attended no demonstrations were being held, but we still really enjoyed viewing our feathered friends.
When you walk around Bedrock City you will see cartoon-colored concrete buildings and many historically accurate cars with stone wheels 😉 You may even cross paths with a dinosaur or two.
If you’re really lucky you just might get to slide down the tail of a giant brontosaurus (it was down for repairs when we visited which was quite disappointing because I really wanted to do it).
My opinion is if you happen to pass by this little roadside attraction in your travels you should stop.
For five bucks and less than an hour of your time, you can relive some childhood memories. Your kids will love it too. They can climb on dinos, ride in cars and walk inside and explore all the buildings.
All you kids at heart can do these things as well. I had no shame at all riding a Saber tooth tiger and crawling around in a snake. If it makes you happy do it, we did and it was a ton of fun. Yabba-Dabba-Doo all!
