If there is one thing you can always count on it’s a fancy chocolate shop in every tourist town you visit. Outside the south rim of Grand Canyon National Park that shop is called The Grand Canyon Chocolate Factory. This shop has a little bit of everything so whether your craving salty or sweet you are sure to find something to satisfy your palate.
Extravagant looking apples greet you when you enter. They have a couple cases filled with treats so sweet you might get a toothache just browsing. They have multiple flavors of fudge that they make in-house. There are chocolate covered pretzels, Twinkies, cookies and marshmallows. They have different caramels and chocolates you can choose from. They also have a variety of mouth watering looking truffles.
Everything in the cases they make themselves. I ended up splurging on a dark chocolate peanut butter cup and I was disappointed. The dark chocolate itself was incredibly yummy, but there was hardly any peanut butter in it. It was mainly a solid chunk of dark chocolate with some chocolate chips on the top with a bit of peanut butter in the middle. It also tasted like an all natural peanut butter which I’m not a fan of. So I struck out there.
The store also carries a variety of specialty food items like candies, nuts and popcorn. We ended up buying a bag of prickly pear flavored kettle corn. We have spent this entire year in New Mexico and Arizona and prickly pear flavored food is everywhere and we’ve been buying it. We have yet to buy a prickly pear flavored item we haven’t liked and this was no exception. This bag contained some excellent tasting kettle corn with this divinely sweet aftertaste. It was just super delicious and I highly recommend picking up a bag for yourself.
So we were 50/50 on our purchases here. The chocolate itself was yummy, but overall I was completely underwhelmed by my peanut butter cup. Considering how good the chocolate was I believe if I had made another decision I might have enjoyed my sweet treat a little more.
One negative is this place is on the pricey side. Their truffle and fudge prices were the highest I’ve ever seen. The other chocolates were more reasonable, but still a little high in my opinion. If your a connoisseur of all things sweet though you might want to check them out.
