Natural Spring And Secret Waterfall In Kisatchie National Forest

Ask a local about the natural spring in Kisatchie National Forest and they will tell you exactly where to get the freshest water you have ever tasted.

Located off forest road 380 this natural spring has been providing locals with fresh, clean mountain water for generations.

During the height of the pandemic last year we were practicing our self-quarantine skills in these woods for 3 months. This spring provided us with water the whole time we were there.

Every time we went to fill up at least one or two locals were there filling up truck beds with gallons of water.

We struck up multiple conversations and learned that this spring has been providing water for quite a while.

Two pipes have been inserted into the mountain and water is constantly flowing. If you have never had the opportunity to drink water straight from a mountain spring you are really missing out.

We have spent quite a bit of time backpacking in our day and the best tasting water always comes from these natural springs in the middle of some forest.

Scramble up the hill behind the stream and you will discover a little hiking path.

Follow it for a few minutes until it pretty much just becomes a runoff for water and doesn’t resemble a trail much anymore. On your right, you will see a teeny tiny waterfall, but it’s still a waterfall.

The spring comes out of the ground again here creating a small waterfall and pool. It then runs down the hill for a bit before disappearing back underground. The views on the short walk are pretty sweet as well.

So if you’re camping in the Kisatchie National Forest of Louisiana (highly recommend BTW great camping and hiking) make sure you swing by the spring and taste the water.

I’m telling ya if you’ve never had fresh, cool, mountain spring water before your mind will be blown. Also, absolutely no filtering is required here. This is straight from the mountain so it’s clean I swear!
