While driving to the Grand Canyon we took a quick detour to snap a pic of the world’s largest Kokopelli.
The statue stands 32 feet tall and sits atop a six-foot base stating it is the “World’s Largest Kokopelli”. It’s made of welded steel and weighs approximately five and one-half tons. It was created by Gerry Berg Sr. and his son and cost around $25,000. Back in the day it sat in front of the Krazy Kokopelli Trading Post now it sits in front of a small strip mall featuring a Starbucks.
And if you’re like me and didn’t know who Kokopelli was they are the Navajo Indian God of Wealth and Fertility. He (or she?) is usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player.
If you’re into checking out unique roadside attractions (I almost always stop) this one is worth the very short detour right off the interstate. It will add maybe 10 minutes to your trip and you can check another “World’s Largest” off your list.
