Spectacular Spearfish Falls
Spearfish Falls was the second fall we visited this day and my second favorite.
Located in the heart of Spearfish Canyon the trail for the waterfall starts right behind the Latchstring restaurant. You will hike 1.5 miles (round trip) to the bottom of the canyon to see the spectacular 47 foot waterfall. The trail is rated moderate, because of the almost 500 foot elevation gain to return to your starting point.
After traveling over a footbridge and through a grove of trees you will arrive at the falls. There are multiple lookout decks to view the waterfall from various angles. The hiking trail to the falls is quite nice as well. If you cannot make the hike for some reason there is an overlook deck on the south side of the restaurant where you can view the falls from the top.
We visited on a sunny day in September and it was just perfect. The waterfall is gorgeous and if your driving the scenic route through Spearfish Canyon I suggest taking the time to check out this waterfall for sure.
