Bridal Veil Falls
Bridal Veil Falls was my least favorite of the falls we encountered while exploring Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, but it is the most accessible.
These particular falls are located approximately 5.8 miles south of Spearfish Canyon’s north entrance. An observation platform has been installed directly across from the cascading 60 foot falls. From this viewpoint you have the perfect opportunity to view and photograph the falls. There is also a large parking lot adjacent to the attraction.
Spearfish Canyon is a popular tourist attraction and since Bridal Veil Falls can be viewed right from the byway it is a popular stop. When we visited in September it was packed and I barely squeezed in to get a pic. I would assume fall is the most popular season for the area. The canyon is an impressive drive with great stops along the way.
I don’t know if it was the time of year or if it’s like this all the time, but there wasn’t much water coming from the falls. Of the three we visited this day it was by far the least impressive. I’m assuming it has a much stronger flow in the spring with the winter snow melting.
Please note that hiking and climbing in the Bridal Veil Falls area is prohibited.
There are signs!
With that being said I saw many people scrambling down the steep banks of the creek to cross and go to the waterfall. I also saw multiple people climbing up the rocks of the waterfall. All in all…not safe people. Enjoy the falls from the platform like you’re suppose to.
