There Are Tarantulas in Arkansas!
Did you know there are tarantulas in Arkansas?
Ok, so we are camping on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas and this morning I was headed to the restrooms when I was stopped in my tracks by a little critter walking across my path. I turned around and went back to Frankenstein the pop-up to get Jamey.
He confirmed my suspicions that a tarantula was living in Arkansas.
Now I didn’t know Arkansas had tarantulas.
When I think of tarantulas I think desert dwelling creatures scurrying across the sand. Well today I was proven wrong to say the least. This giant arachnid was just chilling on the road staring at me bringing my arachnophobia boiling to the surface.
Jamey thought he was super cool and proceeded to take multiple pics with his camera.
More than 50 tarantula species call the United States home.
I believe the one found in Arkansas is the Texas brown tarantula, a.k.a. Aphonopelma hentzi. It is the largest spider in Arkansas and fall happens to be mating season, so I will probably see more of them…lucky me!
