Who Needs A Sink Anyways
So we took the plunge and ripped out our entire sink cabinet and I’ll never look back!
In an earlier post I talked about how much I just hated our sink. We had installed a foot pump and I hated it then installed an electric pump and hated it. The sink was too small to really use it for washing dishes and it always seemed to get filled up with other stuff anyways. Truth is in 6 weeks we hadn’t actually used it once.
So after 6 weeks or so of full time traveling in Frankenstein and never using it we made the decision to just take it all out and use it more efficiently for storage which we always need. It only took about 15 minutes to remove the whole cabinet. Take out some screws, cap off some hoses and you’re done. Ten minutes later I had taken a drive and discarded it in a dumpster never to be seen again.
A pretty sterlite container, some books and a new plant quickly found a home in the spot. We now have more storage and a pretty nook that makes our pup look a bit more like a home than a camper. The first time we moved camp I was amazed how much space the sink took up when you flipped it over to put down the pup.
And before you ask where we wash our hands, brush our teeth and wash our dishes we have a kitchen set up outside. We do all our cooking outside as well so it just works out better for us this way.
We had a 10 gallon water tank we now had to figure our what to do with. We emptied all the water we could then cut a hole in the top of it. Then we soaked up the water that wouldn’t come out, cleaned it and let it dry. Now we use it to store things we don’t use very often. We couldn’t take the whole thing out because a lot of our electrical wires are in this area. We didn’t want to risk anything getting damaged so the tank acts as a protective barrier.
I know taking out the sink in a pop up is a topic that comes up a lot in groups I’m in. Some people couldn’t imagine living without it and some never use it at all. If you never use your sink and have been toying with the idea of removing it let me put in my two cents…DO IT!
