Traveling from Ohio to West Virginia on I-77 you will pass by this excellent welcome center. Clean bathrooms, ample parking, abundant informational brochures and a large comfortable sitting area make this a nice place to stop and stretch your legs.
The highlight of this center is the West Virginia Division of Highways Fallen Worker Memorial located outside. An exceptional statue stands outside honoring the 49 men and women who have been killed in work safety zones since the creation of the State Road Commission in 1921. Sculptor Jamie Lester is responsible for making the statue while Marshall Snyder created the concept.
Also outside is a gravestone structure dedicated to all the paratroopers and glidermen that have served our country. There is also the cutest little wooden bear carving welcoming all travelers to their doors.
Inside by the restrooms are some pretty spectacular murals that are worth admiring. They also have a small museum with exhibits on the areas history, commerce and North Bend Rail Trail.
